Artists - The Festival is now open for submissions from those who want to play at the 2008 festival - if that is you please read the following carefully!!!

Hi

firstly I just do the website and provide a mailing address. I have no say in who is chosen to play. If you have questions after reading the blog feel free to send them and I will pass them on to the committee - but we get lots of messages and can’t possibly answer all of them.

2008 Tarbert Music Festival festival planned for 19th - 21st Sept - now open for artist submissions -  otherwise all details to be confirmed.

Bands / artists who want to play on the official programme (i.e get paid ....)

When the committee meet (meetings start about April and run all the way through to September when the Festival happens) they select bands based on cds that are submitted. Changes to the line up can happen up to the last minute.

If you want to apply you can send one to me at the address below at any time and I will ensure they get it. All types of music are considered. We do get quite a few cds and the committee are only likely to listen to one track unless they really, really like you. Then, and only then are they likely to listen to more or look at your website/ myspace/ youtube etc.

Then successful bands are contacted by the secretary and offered a contract if we can agree terms (like most festivals we are always short of funds). At this time we can also discuss accommodation, meals PA requirements etc.

- unfortunately we can’t return anything and unsuccessful groups don’t even get a reply. (sorry).

Whilst we have featured bands and artists from many parts of the world, this has only occurred because they have happened to be in the UK at the time. We are only a small village festival and cannot afford to meet international travel costs.

The Open Stage (Unpaid but still Official!)

We usually (circumstances allowing) operate an open stage on |the Saturday Afternoon of the Festival, where new acts can show of their talent. Places are usually taken up quickly by local young people, who are given priority, but folk from all over have appeared - If you want to play on the Open Stage drop me an e-mail.no promises though.

Bands / artists who just want to play (i.e not get paid ....)

Lots of bands and artists just come along for the chance to meet and play accoustically in jam sessions with others from practically everywhere - feel free to turn up. The festival is mostly free and is paid for by local traders. Accomodation gets booked up very quickly, but there is lots of open space for camping locally (no fires please and leave the place as you found it!).

we are not responsible for the venues for the rest of the year. if artists want to contact the hotels individually, details are in the accommodation section of the web site at http://www.tarbertmusicfestival.com/

Our thanks to Donny Graham for the following poem - Donny wrote to say "The idea for the attached poem came to me while sitting in the beer garden of the Victoria Hotel and looking across to the castle where my tent was pitched for the duration of the music festival"

THE PHANTOM O' THE FESTIVAL

(A Tale from the Tarbert Music Festival 2006)

Ae day A went tae pitch ma tent
i the gruns o' Tarbert Castle
But first A'd asked the Tourist Board
Wha said t'wad be nae hassle.

But ne'er again dae A intend
On sic an expedition
For t'was nae lark, when efter dark
A saw this apparition.

It dreeped doon frae the castle wa'
A'  glowin' green an' slimy
Thain made its way doon tae the bay
An'  breenged intae the briny.

Next day, A never cracked a licht
Aboot it, for ma thinkin'
Was if A had, they'd cry me mad
Or ask whit A'd been drinkin'.

Well as for me, A wish tae see
Nae mair phantasmagoria
Sae come next year, A'll stick tae beer
An' stey - at the Victoria!
